GARRY / IPAD RECOVERY

“Unlock iPad to use accessories”?

Your iPad is still in its normal locked mode. To erase it without its screen passcode, use the physical buttons to enter Recovery Mode. The existing Garry erase flow already expects that mode. You can follow these steps now without installing anything else.

1. Turn the iPad off

Unplug it from the computer. With a Home button, hold the top button until the power slider appears. Without a Home button, hold the top button and either volume button. Slide to power off, and wait one minute.

2. Connect it and enter Recovery Mode

Connect only the iPad you intend to erase to the Garry laptop with a working USB data cable.

With a round Home button

Hold Home and the top (or side) power button together. Keep holding through the Apple logo until the computer-and-cable screen appears, then release.

Without a Home button

  1. Quickly press and release the volume button nearest the top button.
  2. Quickly press and release the other volume button.
  3. Hold the top button through the Apple logo. Release when the computer-and-cable screen appears.

A passcode screen means the sequence must be repeated. These steps follow Apple's iPad recovery guide.

3. Detect and erase

In Phone & Tablet Reset → iPhone / iPad, select Detect device. Review the detected identity, open the erase confirmation, and follow its prompts. Keep power and the cable connected.

Restore removes local data and the screen passcode. Activation Lock may still require the linked Apple Account. Linux restore support has not yet been verified on your particular device; if it fails, Apple Devices on Windows or Finder on a Mac is the supported fallback.

If Garry detects nothing even while the recovery screen is visible, try a known working data cable and a direct laptop USB port, then detect again.

Optional: clearer instructions inside Garry

The original app displayed the same warning for zero Apple USB devices and multiple devices. This small repair separates those cases and adds an offline iPad recovery guide inside the app.

  1. Close Phone & Tablet Reset. Do not interrupt an active restore.
  2. Download recovery help repair
  3. Run sudo python3 -I ~/Downloads/garry-recovery-help.py.
  4. After the verified message, reopen Phone & Tablet Reset.

This exact-version repair backs up the previous app and needs working USB persistence. It does not erase a phone, change the USB boot files, or require Rufus or a restart. The restore command and target checks remain unchanged.
